Melamine based resin
GREIBOTAN GLF
GREIBOTAN GLF is a melamine-urea-formaldehyde condensate resin specifically developed for the retanning of chrome-tanned leathers, with a particular focus on the targeted filling of loosely structured areas of the hide. Its cationic character at low pH gives it a strong affinity for the anionic collagen fibre structure of chrome-tanned leather, enabling deep and uniform deposition of the resin throughout the interfibrillar spaces of the hide and ensuring consistent filling results across the full hide surface, including the challenging belly and flank zones.
GREIBOTAN GLF improves grain tightness and overall leather fullness while simultaneously promoting a more uniform and even milling pattern across the entire hide. Leathers treated with GREIBOTAN GLF exhibit a consistently well-defined pebble structure after milling, with reduced variation between the dense back areas and the more open belly and flank regions.
A key operational advantage of GREIBOTAN GLF is its ability to generate excellent buffing and embossing properties in the finished leather. The uniform and compact fibre structure achieved through GREIBOTAN GLF treatment provides the substrate density and homogeneity required for reliable buffing results and precise, clearly defined embossing patterns without surface defects.

Properties
Application Examples
GREIBOTAN GLF is the preferred melamine resin retanning agent wherever selective filling of loosely structured hides, uniform milling grain, and reliable buffing and embossing performance are required.
In the production of milled leathers for garments, nappa, and soft upholstery applications, GREIBOTAN GLF ensures a consistent and even milling pattern with uniform pebble definition across the full hide, significantly reducing the quality variation between dense and loosely structured areas that can otherwise lead to rejection or downgrading of hides.
For leathers destined for buffing, GREIBOTAN GLF provides the even fibre density and surface homogeneity required for a consistent nap length and clean, defect-free buffing result, making it particularly valuable in the production of suede, nubuck, and corrected grain leathers where surface uniformity is a critical quality parameter.
In embossing applications, the compact and homogeneous leather structure achieved with GREIBOTAN GLF ensures that embossed patterns are reproduced sharply and consistently across the full hide surface, supporting reliable production results and minimising surface irregularities in the finished article.
