GREIBOTAN GSH is a replacement retanning syntan specifically recommended for the production of aniline leathers, where preserving the natural grain character and surface quality of the hide is of paramount importance. Thanks to its deliberately low astringency, GREIBOTAN GSH retans the leather without overtanning the grain, maintaining a firm grain surface with closed, fine pores that is essential for high-quality aniline and semi-aniline leathers.
GREIBOTAN GSH demonstrates excellent dispersing action on vegetable extracts, significantly improving their penetration and even distribution both on the leather surface and throughout the full cross-section of the hide. This dispersing effect not only optimises the performance of vegetable tanning agents in the retanning recipe but also enhances the dyeability of the leather, contributing to brighter, more level, and more intense colour results.
Its balanced formulation makes GREIBOTAN GSH a versatile retanning agent suitable for a wide range of applications, from delicate aniline leathers requiring gentle and controlled retanning to heavier articles destined for buffing and embossing, where a denser retanning structure in combination with vegetable extracts is required.

Application Examples
GREIBOTAN GSH is suitable for a broad range of retanning applications wherever controlled, low-astringency retanning combined with enhanced vegetable extract performance and improved dyeability is required.
For the retannage of kid leathers for shoe upper production, GREIBOTAN GSH is used at 3.0 to 6.0%, delivering the gentle yet effective retanning action needed to preserve the delicate natural grain structure of kid leather while providing the required fullness and firmness for footwear applications.
For particularly empty or loosely structured hides, GREIBOTAN GSH can be added at the end of the fatliquoring process in the same bath at 2%, where it selectively fills the loose areas and improves the overall structural consistency of the leather without affecting the fatliquoring result.
For leathers destined for buffing and embossing, GREIBOTAN GSH is applied at 6.0 to 8.0% in combination with vegetable extracts, where its dispersing action supports even distribution of the vegetable tanning agents throughout the leather structure, resulting in a compact, well-filled substrate with reliable buffing and embossing performance.
